Musk says Zelensky is 'despised by the people of Ukraine' and 'canceled the election'
…is despised by the people of Ukraine
What he said or did
Musk wrote that Zelensky is despised by the people of Ukraine,
that he would lose in a landslide
and had canceled the election,
and called Ukraine's government a massive graft machine feeding off the dead bodies of Ukrainian soldiers.
Background
The posts followed President Trump's description of Zelensky as a dictator without elections
during US–Russia talks from which Ukraine was excluded. Zelensky's five-year term began in 2019; Ukraine has postponed elections under martial law since 2022.
Fact-checks and findings
A Kyiv International Institute of Sociology poll released 19 February 2025 found 57% of Ukrainians trusted Zelensky, up from 52% in December 2024 (Euronews). Ukraine has postponed elections under martial law since the 2022 invasion (AFP via Malay Mail).
