Twitter bans links and handles for Mastodon, Facebook, Instagram and other rivals, then scales policy back
What he said or did
Twitter announced it would no longer allow free promotion of certain social media platforms,
barring links or usernames for Facebook, Instagram, Mastodon, Truth Social, Tribel, Nostr and Post, and saying it would remove accounts created to promote them.
Background
The policy came days after Twitter suspended journalists who had posted about a Mastodon account tracking Musk's jet.
Official response
After criticism, Musk wrote the policy will be adjusted to suspending accounts only when that account's primary purpose is promotion of competitors.
What happened next
Twitter deleted the announcement and removed the policy page within a day. The same evening Musk ran a poll on whether he should step down as head of Twitter.
