Musk says Starlink is barred from South Africa 'because I'm not black'; government rejects claim
Starlink is not allowed to operate in South Africa, because I'm not black.
What he said or did
Musk wrote: Starlink is not allowed to operate in South Africa, because I'm not black.
Background
South African law requires telecoms licensees to have 30% ownership by historically disadvantaged groups. SpaceX had written to regulator ICASA asking it to reconsider the requirement.
Official response
Foreign ministry official Clayson Monyela replied: Sir, that's NOT true & you know it! It's got nothing to do with your skin colour,
adding Starlink is welcome if it complies with local laws.
Fact-checks and findings
ICASA said it has not received any application from Starlink or SpaceX
