Musk tells advertisers who paused spending on X to 'go f--- yourself' at DealBook Summit, names Disney's Iger

What he said or did

Asked at the New York Times DealBook Summit about advertisers leaving X, Musk said that anyone trying to blackmail him with advertising should go fuck yourself, repeated Don't advertise, and addressed Disney CEO Bob Iger: Hey Bob, if you're in the audience.

Background

About 200 advertisers including Disney, Apple and IBM had paused spending. At the same event Musk apologised for endorsing an antisemitic post, saying I handed a loaded gun to those who hate me.

Official response

Iger, speaking earlier at the summit, said association with Musk and X was not necessarily a positive one for us.

What happened next

Musk acknowledged the boycott could kill the company and said the public would blame advertisers. Internal documents seen by the New York Times projected up to $75 million in lost revenue that quarter.
