Musk visits Israel, tours Kfar Aza with Netanyahu; Israel says Gaza Starlink use requires its approval

What he said or did

Musk toured Kibbutz Kfar Aza with Prime Minister Netanyahu and said in an X Spaces conversation that Israel had no choice but to eliminate Hamas. Israel announced an agreement in principle that Starlink units may operate in Israel, including Gaza, only with its communications ministry's approval.

Background

The visit followed widespread criticism after Musk endorsed a post on X earlier in November 2023 that the White House condemned as antisemitic, and advertiser withdrawals from X.

Official response

Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi welcomed a principle understanding with Musk. President Herzog's office said their meeting would address combating antisemitism online.

What happened next

In February 2024 Israel approved Starlink for a UAE field hospital in Rafah, saying Gaza units would be approved individually after security checks (CNN).
