Former Twitter safety chief Yoel Roth leaves home after threats escalate following Musk posts about him
What he said or did
CNN reported that Yoel Roth, Twitter's former head of trust and safety, left his home after threats against him increased. A person familiar with his situation told CNN the threats escalated after Musk appeared to endorse a post falsely accusing Roth of sympathy for paedophilia.
Background
Roth had resigned in November 2022. In October, while Roth was still at the company, Musk had written I support Yoel. My sense is that he has high integrity, and we are all entitled to our political beliefs.
The attacks coincided with the release of internal Twitter documents branded the Twitter Files.
Official response
CNN's report did not include a response from Musk. A Twitter statement quoted in the report, that it was unfortunate to see individual employees targeted for company decisions,
dates from 2020, when Roth was targeted by supporters of President Trump, before Musk owned the company.
Fact-checks and findings
CNN and The Advocate described the accusation against Roth as false.
